No loitering — The selectmen have requested that the truckmen not congregate their teams all together in the Square when they’re not working. So many teams bunched in one locality is more or less of an annoyance. The truckmen have agreed to accede to the wishes of town authorities.
Hometown values — At a recent town meeting, Houlton assessed itself $75,000 for expenses and municipal improvements. This is a greater sum than the combined amount of Woodstock and Carleton County is assessed.

Rotary officers — New officers recently elected by the Houlton Rotary Club will take office July 1. They are: Lawrence Burleigh, director; Charles Heath, vice president; B.W. Smith, president; Percy Hoar, secretary and Albert Putnam, director. Norman Rodgerson is outgoing director.
Town meetings — The annual meeting for Island Falls was held March 17 at the high school gym. Town officers elected include: selectmen, Ralph Porter and Galen Porter; town treasurer, Roland Webb; town clerk, Carl Smith and school board member, Dr. Clyde Swett. A $58,475 budget was set.
In Ludlow, a budget of $12,000 was raised and the following slate of officers was elected: selectmen, Clyde Warman, John Fleming and Gordon Wright; town clerk, Marie Wright; treasurer, James McCain; tax collector, Clair Bubar; overseer of wild land, Monroe Ivey; school committee member, Gladys Estabrook and truant officer, Floyd Ivey.

NURSES CAPPED — Three southern Aroostook nurses were capped in 1958 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland. They are, from left: Audrey McCready, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald McCready of Houlton; Maralie Arbo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vaughn Arbo of Smyrna; and Jean Burtt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Burtt of Houlton.

Manager — Anthony Bordieri, manager of the Ames Discount Department Store soon to be open in Houlton, was welcomed to membership in the Houlton Chamber of Commerce last week by chamber president Jim Sennett.
The Ames store is expected to be open April 14.
Derby — Cub Scout Pack 156 held its Pinewood Derby March 12 at Watson Hall with approximately 60 in attendance to watch the competition.
Dick York of York Ford Sales and Philip Wyman were on hand to judge the cars on the basis of style and appearance. Top winners in this category were Herbie Parent, first place; Andrew Blood, second place; Ryan McKinney, third place.
