Hilda Clukey led the program for the week. Her topic was on an article about vinegar. Three tablespoons is recommended for a day. The meetings are always interesting.

TOPS  233
By Lois Downing

Take Off Pounds Sensibly 233 of Houlton met at the Aldergate building on High Street for its Friday, May 2 meeting.
Nineteen ladies were present; five of these were KOPS.
TOPS and KOPS pledges were given. Charlotte Marley was the greeter of the month and Brenda Lacostic led the meeting, in the absence of Joyce Estey.
Loser of the week was Gerry McAfee with Juanita Warman as runner-up.
The skinny dish was held over; mystery gift was won by Joanne Scott and the 50/50 drawing was taken home by Donna Parent.
Janette Nelson gave the monthly report on finances. Secretary’s report was given by Anita Nason and Joanne Scott presented the weight recorder’s report.
Brenda had charge of the meeting. She gave each person an activity sheet on planning snacks and food cravings. One matched up the number of calories with the listed foods. For example one cup of raw vegetables and six medium baby carrots is equivalent to 25-30 calories.
Kay Grass read a list of seven super foods: whole grain cereals, low fat dairy products, coffee, lean meat, green tea, nuts, and tofu.
Denise ended the final “Pick a card” contest. Winners were for TOPS, Gerry McAfee and Lois Downing for KOPS. Each received a basket containing items for gardens and related items.
The meeting ended and will resume next Friday. Meetings start at 9 a.m. after weigh-in at 8-8:45 a.m.
If you need more information, you may call Charlotte Marley at 757-8483 or Betty Ivey at 532-9653.
Everyone is welcome.

Ricker Rumblings
By Lois Downing

Good morning everyone on this Sunday. Overcast but otherwise a delightful day.
Several of the ladies from Ricker attended services for Gladys Brewer at Dunn’s on Tuesday of last week. Gladys was the aunt of Shirley Nason and lived here for many years before her departure to Madigan. Attending were Lavina Byron, Norma Bates, Helen Brewer, Joyce Miller, Dot Campbell, Connie Barry, Lois Downing and of course, Shirley.
Sympathy is extended to the family of Oden Cassidy on his passing Saturday morning. Oden was a volunteer here for the Meals on Wheels. He was a retired school teacher and was well known in the community.
Congratulations to Francis McMonigle on his 89th birthday, as announced at the afternoon Mass at St. Mary of the Visitation Church. Many more birthdays, Francis. He was there with his many nieces and nephews of New Hampshire and with his brother, Eugene. Francis and Eugene lived here before moving to Madigan.
Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers, guardians and grandmothers. May you have the happiest of days spent with loved ones and family.
A Mother’s Day breakfast will be served at St. Mary of the Visitation Church on Sunday. Come and enjoy.
Don’t forget the annual dinner served to the RSVP at Smoki Haulers Snowmobile Clubhouse on Thursday in Oakfield. All you volunteers get ready for a great meal and celebration.
Our Meals on Wheels is undergoing a change. Governor’s Restaurant, our source for meals, recently closed. The reasoning behind it is the high costs of fuel and food. That means a change for us. Whatever it is, we will welcome the change.
The thought for the day is: “He who goes out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with him.” (Psalm 12:66)
Have a wonderful week.
