The Houlton High School tennis teams played Madawaska and Fort Kent in double matches and Presque Isle in a single match in last week’s competition. Against Madawaska, the Houlton girls lost 5-0 in both matches.
Houlton’s Anna Caron fell to Nicole Daigle, 8-2 and 8-2; Hiba Bilal lost 8-0, 8-0 to Madawaska’s Audrey Bergeron and Houlton’s Holly Bouvier was defeated 8-1, 8-2 by Megan Hebert.
In doubles, Kelsey Fitzpatrick/Tasha Ponder were overtaken 8-1, 8-1 by the Owl’s Cindy Legasse/Jamie Nadeau and Emily McGary/Desiree Deprey fell to Madawaska’s Denyse Guerrette/Jenna Parent, 8-3, 8-0.
In boys’ action, the Owls won 4-1 and 5-0.
Houlton’s Derek Thomas won his first match up against Craig Cyr, 8-3, but lost by the same score in the duo’s second match.
Houlon’s Ashir Abouleish fell to Shawn Parker, 8-5, 8-5, while Houlton’s Musa Bilal was topped 8-5, 8-1 by Nathan Beaulieu.
In doubles, Madawaska’s Christian Lezotte/Jamie Cyr toppled Lowell Matthews/Elliot Mooers, 8-6 and 8-3, while the Owls’ Kyle Pelletier/Jacques Daigle topped Craig Thomas/Malik Abouleish, 8-0 and 8-4.
Last Tuesday at the University of Maine at Presque Isle against Fort Kent, the Houlton girls lost by scores of 5-0.
Jessica Caron overtook Houlton’s Caron, 8-1 and 8-5. Nicole Chasse of Fort Kent defeated Bilal, 8-1 and 8-2, while Houlton’s Fitzpatrick played against Alli Charette and lost 8-0, 8-0.
In doubles, Carissa Pelletier/Becca Martin overtook Bouvier/Ponder, 8-2 in the first matchup and then Martin paired with Samantha Landry to top Houlton’s team, 8-1. Fort Kent’s Bethany Nadeau/Amelia Stevens beat McGary/Deprey 8-2 in the first match and then the Warriors’ twosome topped Ashley Hannigan/Daisey Torres, 8-2.
In boys’ action, Houlton defeated Fort Kent, 5-0 in both match ups.
Ashir Abouleish erased Adam Bouchard, 8-2 and 9-7, while Bilal topped Matt Taggert, 9-8 and 7-4 and then 6-0. Derek Thomas defeated Kelby Pelletier, 8-2 and 8-1.
In doubles, Matthews/Mooers defeated Fort Kent’s Isaac Mitchell/Alex Charette, 8-3 and Jean Leboeuf/ Alan Morse, 8-2. Craig Thomas/Malik Abouleish defeated Leboeuf/Morse, 8-3 and Robert Deschaine/Alex Boucher, 8-0.
Against Presque Isle, the Houlton boys and girls lost by 5-0 scores.
In girls’ action, Caron fell 8-1 to Sarah Porter; Bilal 8-1 to Allisen Dean and Fitzpatrick 8-0 to Amy Michaud.
Doubles partners Bouvier/Ponder fell 8-1 to Brittany Bearden/Courtney Hoffses and McGary/Deprey were also defeated 8-0 by Lindsay Michaud/Divya Bisht.
On the boy’s side, the Wildcats’ Alex Carter downed Ashir Abouleish, 8-2; Ben Picard overtook Bilal, 8-1 and Sam Picard toppled Derek Thomas, 8-5.
Presque Isle won the doubles matchups, as Matthews/Mooers were dropped 8-1 by Caleb Mathers/Chris Cowley and Craig Thomas/Malik Abouleish were bested 8-6 by Kyle Gibson/Bryce Fagan.
