Organizations
The Easton Happy Days Senior Citizen’s Club met Thursday, May 8 with 13 members present. After the potluck dinner, a short meeting was held with the opening, the “Pledge of Allegiance,” and the singing of “My Country Tis’ of Thee.” The reading of the minutes of the last meeting were read and accepted. The treasurer reported that the bank balance remained the same as last meeting and that she would drop in to the Town Office and inquire about the money that the town usually donates to the Club. She also called the roll and those present were: Liana and Paul DeMerchant, Clair and Eldora Carter, Marie Hewitt, Glenice Craig, Edith Fuller, Dottie Beaton, Arlene Ladner, Alene Embleton, Ezalee Smith, Lindy Fowler, and Nina Trask.
President Marie Hewitt reported that nutritionist Chris Finnemore would be going to Bangor and had offered to see if she could find some more valances to match the ones that Ezalee and Nina had already purchased and hung in the West Ridge Manor rec room. They were missing two or three more. The president also asked for the group to think about holding only one meeting a month as had been suggested to her. There was some discussion and a decision will be made at the next meeting. Marie had tried to get a pharmacist to speak for this meeting, but couldn’t at this time, but she said she would still try to line one up in the near future. She had pictures of the members who read to the school children last month and some handmade cards that the children had made for them. She also read a Mother’s Day card that she had received from her daughter, Mary Ellen, in Florida. The card was impregnated with wildflower seeds. She had only to tear the paper and put it in the ground for the seeds to grow. She also read a poem about mothers, written by Earlene Lawrence for the County Christian paper. Glenice Craig read a poem that she received from her daughter, Peggy Mitchell, in Presque Isle about “How God Made Mothers.” Some told stories of remembrances of their mothers and then adjourned.
