HOULTON – Caribou baseball posted their second victory of the 2008 season coming back with 10 runs in the second half of baseball action at Houlton last Wednesday.     “In the fourth inning our bats really started coming alive,” said head coach Jimmie Thibodeau. “I think the spark was Matt Kinney hitting a double to start the inning off.”
Senior Viking Jarryd Rossignol worked hard at the plate with two doubles and two RBIs for CHS. Pitcher Philip St. Peter won the game from the mound, and added a triple and single at the plate. Kinney posted a double, single and hit a homer for two runs. Jon Noyes had two singles.
The Vikings go on to play Fort Kent tonight in a doubleheader and Hermon on Saturday after a weeklong gap. “Our games are spread out quite a ways so we’re going to be backed up quite a bit in the coming week,” commented Thibodeau. However, coaching staff plan on limiting each pitcher’s innings to keep them fresh while testing their pitching depth.
Houlton had only a one point lead after three innings of play with the Caribou softball team, but after a five-run spurt in the bottom of the fifth Caribou couldn’t come back and fell 11-8.
“We gave Houlton a pretty good run,” said head coach Ryan Deprey. “But, we had a couple of plays go against us and a couple of calls go against us, and that affected the girls.”
Vikings Ashley Doucette and Ali Richards lead offense with one home run each. Kristen Espling added three singles.
Viking softball will play all but one of their remaining regular season games at home.
