ONE STEP CLOSER — The Health Services Foundation moved one step closer to its fund-raising goals thanks to a donation from Katahdin Trust Company. HSF Executive Director Elizabeth Dulin, center, holds a check for $10,000 for their Nuclear Medicine Campaign. Pictured here from left are: Annette Beaton, vice-president branch manager of Houlton, Dulin and Jon Prescott, president and CEO of Katahdin Trust Company.
“Katahdin Trust is a huge supporter of the needs that face our communities here in the County by being very in tune to what is happening,” explained Elizabeth Dulin, executive director of the Foundation. “The Foundation presented to Katahdin Trust a vital healthcare need facing Houlton Regional Hospital and they stepped in to assist the need with a generous $10,000 pledge. They appreciate the role the Foundation plays in assisting our local non-profit healthcare providers with their program, project, education and capital needs.
“They understand that Houlton Regional Hospital and the Health Services Foundation are constantly concerned with the health and well being of our community and this support continues Katahdin’s strong commitment to that well being,” she said.
In presenting the contribution Jon J. Prescott, President and CEO of Katahdin Trust Company said, "Houlton Regional Hospital is a vital partner in our community, providing health care services close to home. We are pleased to support the initiative underway by the Health Services Foundation for renovations and expansion in the Nuclear Medicine area designed to enhance the privacy and comfort of patients."
Dulin said the donation is a significant gift toward the campaign for enlarging the current nuclear testing area.
“It is extremely important when someone is in a stressful testing situation they be provided with the very best in comfort and privacy, and funding from Katahdin Trust will go a long way in addressing the issues we face today,” she said. “Again, we are truly grateful for Katahdin’s recognition of the critical need that was presented for assistance with the project.”
The entire project began early in 2006, when the hospital turned to the Foundation to assist with equipment, and the expansion/renovation of the Nuclear Medicine Department. The challenge in Phase I of the campaign was to raise $302,000 allowing for the purchase of vital state-of-the-art nuclear medicine imaging equipment at no cost to the hospital, and it was “Mission Accomplished.”
The Foundation has conducted many campaigns over the years in support of the healthcare needs that face our providers, however, none so large as the $1 Million Dollar Nuclear Medicine campaign. Raising such funds is not an easy task, but since the Foundation’s beginning in 1983, local communities have responded to fundraising efforts consistently and with outstanding generosity. That generosity allowed the Foundation to top the $1 Million Dollar Mark in giving back to all those communities with their 2005 grant awards.
Dulin said it hardly seems enough to just say “thank you,” however, Katahdin Trust Company fully understands the Foundation’s mission of “Supporting Excellence in Healthcare” to all is a passion that never wavers.  This gift will have a far-reaching effect for all those in need of these services for generations to come.
“With that, we extend to Katahdin Trust a heartfelt ‘thank you’ and reflect with gratitude on this gift that will offer our communities the very best possible healthcare options,” said Dulin. “Those options will afford an opportunity to make the very best healthcare decisions for all concerned as well as those they love and care about.
Margaret Mead, vice-president of Katahdin Trust presented the donation to the Foundation alongside president and CEO Prescott.
“A small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world,” said Dulin. “This is what the County is all about,” she said.
