LIMESTONE – All Americans have the right to enjoy recreational fishing as a healthy and wholesome activity suitable for all ages. When used and managed carefully, fisheries’ resources are a perpetual gift from past generations that fishers can enjoy today and preserve for future generations. The Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge in Limestone is one of these facilities. The ANWR will host the third annual Children’s Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 9 for fishermen under the age of 16 to enjoy this Maine tradition. The derby will be held at Delima Pond off of Refuge Road.
Registration runs from 8 to 9 a.m. with the derby beginning at 9 a.m.
Prizes will be awarded for the top three total fish weights. Participants must be accompanied by an adult or guardian while fishing.
The derby will be held no matter what the weather conditions.
Hot dogs, beverages and chips will also be served during the derby.
Each participant should bring their own fishing pole and tackle.
