HODGDON — Principal Clark O. Rafford has announced the honor parts for Hodgdon High School class of 2008. They are: Valedictorian, Shannon H. Martin; Salutatorian, Alexander G. Harris; First Honor Essayist, Kaitlin A. Russell, Second Honor Essayist, Taylor J. Quint; and Third Honor Essayist, Ashley M. Levesque. Valedictorian – Shannon Martin
Martin, daughter of Stephen and Peggy Martin of Amity, has been active in a variety of academic and extracurricular activities at Hodgdon High School.
She is a member and past president of the National Honor Society, she has been a two-year member of the board for Houlton-Hodgdon Dollars for Scholars, a class officer for two years, and played both varsity basketball and varsity soccer for all four years. Additionally, she has been a student council member for all four years, treasurer for her junior year and vice-president for her senior year. She has been chosen by the faculty as “Student of the Month” twice during her high school career.
Academic honors include highest honors throughout her high school career; additionally she received both the Women in Engineering and the Rochester Kodak Young Leaders Award in her junior year. She is the class of 2008 Principal’s Award winner. She is currently employed at Tim Horton’s.
Martin will be attending the University of New England in the fall, majoring in Physical Therapy.
Salutatorian – Alexander Harris
Harris, son of George and Daphne Harris of East Hodgdon, is Hodgdon High School’s salutatorian.
He is currently a member of the National Honor Society, played varsity basketball for three years, captain his senior year, and varsity soccer for four years, captain his junior and senior years. Academic honors include the “Presidential Achiever Scholarship” from Springfield College. He is currently employed at Walmart.
Harris will be attending Springfield College in Springfield, Mass where he has been accepted into the Physical Therapy Program.1st Honor Essayist – Kaitlin Russell
Russell, daughter of Randy and Kathy Russell of Linneus, is the first honor essayist.
She is the past Vice President of the National Honor Society, founder of the high school ski club, band member, and played for the volleyball team. She was nominated by the faculty for the “Student of the Month” award. She has received high honors on all four years of high school.
Outside of high school, she has been a member of 4-H for 10 years, President of her club for four years, and President of the county’s 4-H Officer’s Council her senior year. She has been selected to be on various 4-H teams such as the equestrian team, horse judging team, quiz bowl team, and has represented Maine at 4-H National Congress. She has been active in St. Mary’s youth ministry for all four years and has been a lectgor for the past two. She is currently employed as a hostess/waitress at Grammy’s Country Inn.
Russell will be attending the University of Vermont majoring in Nuclear Medicine in the fall of 2008. 2nd Honor Essayist – Taylor Quint
Quint, daughter of Olin and Tracey Quint of Hodgdon, is the second honor essayist and has been active in a variety of activities at Hodgdon High School.
She is a member of the National Honors Society, has been class president for two years and has been a four-year member of the student council holding the offices of secretary, vice-president and president. She if a four-year varsity basketball member, was captain her senior year, and played golf team for one year as senior captain. She was chosen as student of the month by the faculty of Hodgdon High School and received high honors throughout her high school career.
Quint has been an active member of the Appaloosa Horse Club and the Meduxnekeag River Pony Club. She competed in the Pony Club National Championships in Virginia and the Appaloosa World Championships in Texas. She has been an active, viable member of her church and youth groups, serving as the youth representative of the PPRC board and Sunday school youth leader. She is currently employed at the Mill Pond Dairy Bar.
Quint will attend Southern Maine Community College in the fall where she will double major in Cardiovascular Technology and Nutrition.3rd Honor Essayist – Ashley Levesque
Levesque, daughter of Rudy and Anita Levesque of Linneus, is the third honor essayist for Hodgdon High School.
She is a member of the French Club, the National Honor Society and was secretary her senior year. Ashley played for the Hodgdon Hawks Girls Basketball team for two years. She has been a member of 4-H for the past eight years, the United States Pony Club for four years, and has accumulated hundreds of volunteer hours at various community events and as Sunday School teacher for St. Mary’s Church.
She has been selected by the faculty as student of the month for all four years, has received academic achievement awards in most of her high school classes, was the junior Academic Initiative Award Winner, and was rewarded at the Rotary luncheon for all four years. She is currently employed at McDonald’s.
Levesuqe will be attending Albany College of Pharmacy in the fall of 2008.
