In celebration of Katahdin Trust Company’s 90th birthday, communities home to the 14 branches of the bank, received a pink crabapple tree for planting. On hand for the tree planting Friday morning in front of the Wellness Center on Bennett Drive in Caribou were, from left; Peggy Bugee, Caribou branch manager; Paul Guimond, branch supervisor; Paul Powers, board of directors member; Craig Staples, Katahdin Trust commercial services officer; Kathy Mazurchelli, director of the Caribou Parks and Recreation Department; and Gary Marquis, Caribou Parks and Recreation supervisor.

Jon Prescott, resident and CEO of the bank, said that the tree planting initiative is symbolic, “Simply makes good sense as a reflection of our 90th anniversary of service. When you pause to think about the principles of true community banking, words such as ’roots’ and ‘solid growth’ come to mind. Accordingly, saplings will do much the same while contributing to the beauty of the communities and providing shade and enjoyment for generations to come,” he said.
Katahdin Trust Company’s senior vice president of marketing, Vicki Smith noted, “In each of the communities where we have a presence, we have worked with local officials to determine sites which will benefit the greatest number of people and where, perhaps, a touch of landscaping will enhance the property. We will be planting these pink crabapple trees at libraries, historical sites, community parks and other areas of common interest,” she added.
In celebration of the banking facility’s birthday, Caribou’s tree was planted on Bennett Drive in front of the Wellness Center, Friday morning.
“What better way to honor the generations of customers and bankers who have been a part of Katahdin Trust Co. than to plant trees,” said Smith. “Our roots are here in northern Maine.
