A New York man is in custody following his arrest Sunday morning in connection with incidents in Presque Isle and Connor over the weekend. “Dwight Fowler II, 38, of Scottsville, N.Y., was charged with elevated aggravated assault, a Class A felony, stemming from an incident that occurred on Friday, May 30, in Connor,” said Det. Dan Robertson, of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office.
Robertson said the victim, a 22-year-old male, underwent surgery and has been released from Cary Medical Center, in Caribou.
“Bail has been set at $25,000 cash or $50,000 double surety,” Robertson said.
Fowler is also facing a number of charges in Presque Isle on a separate matter.
As the result of a traffic stop by Officer Larry Fickett, of the Presque Isle Police Department, at around 1:11 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, Fowler was charged with operating without a license (in connection with a suspension in New York), unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, failure to register a vehicle and failure to give correct name, address or date of birth.
When Fickett stopped Fowler, Fowler identified himself as Timothy Jeremy Fowler and gave a ficticious birth date. Fickett had the car impounded and towed by Jerry’s Towing Service, of Presque Isle, and transported Fowler to the PIPD for booking. Bail was set on the Presque Isle charges at $3,000 cash or $10,000 surety.
While at the PIPD, Fickett was notified by the ACSO that their department was looking for Fowler as a suspect in connection with an elevated aggravated assault with a deadly weapon May 30 in Connor Township.
Robertson and Deputy Goff came to the PIPD, where they interviewed Fowler. Goff then transported Fowler to the Aroostook County Jail, in Houlton.
Police searched Fowler’s vehicle for evidence but could not say what, if anything, had been discovered. The car was brought to the PIPD so that Fickett could do a complete inventory of the vehicle.
The case remains under investigation, according to Robertson.
“The matter is still under investigation, thus no additional details are being released at this time,” said Robertson.
Fowler is scheduled to appear on Friday, July 25, at 9 a.m. in Aroostook County Superior Court in Caribou.
