Alumni Association banquet June 5

Organizations
The Easton Alumni Association will hold its annual Alumni Banquet tomorrow, June 5, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Easton Elementary School cafeteria. Honored classes will be 2008, 1983 and 1958.

Alumni members are asked to bring either a salad or dessert. Please plan to attend this night of welcoming the Class of 2008 and reminiscing with old classmates and friends. Any questions please call 488-5781.
Remember that there will be a day, June 10, for a referendum vote on the Easton School Department’s school budget that was decided on June 2. Referendum ballots will be available at the Town Office all day on June 10 for registered voters to cast their vote on this budget. All taxpayers are encouraged to cast their ballots.
A special assembly was held at the Easton Elementary School gymnasium recently with Denny the Bear, the high school mascot, helping the Easton Parent Community Organization (EPCO) members announce the winners of the penny fund-raiser held in March. The class that won for the most pennies per student was the ECP class. They were treated to an ice cream party the Friday before April vacation began. Grades 1 and 2 were also invited to the ice cream party, as they came in as second and third place, with only a few cents difference between them. A special bouquet of balloons was presented to the class that brought in the most rolled coins (made easier counting for EPCO members) to the ECP. Many thanks to all those families that rolled coins and donated to this effort. The money earned from this project was given to teachers to buy much-needed supplies for their classrooms. Also, the EPCO has set up a bottle account at Rick’s Redemption in Presque Isle. Anyone can drop off bottles there, and let the nice folks know that it should go toward the Easton EPCO/PTO account. The General Mills Box Tops collection contest is almost over for the school year. The winners who have brought in the most tops over the school year will be announced at the awards ceremony on the last day of school. One more bit of news, the EPCO will have another “digger” installed on the playground over the summer break. The children will have another playground toy to look forward to when they return to school. The EPCO is also helping Mr. Graves to collect Hood Box Tops. These are lids from a variety of Hood milk products. For more information on this project go to www.Hood.com.
Sympathy
Our sympathy goes out to the family of 66-year-old Philip Foster, of Bangor and Ellsworth. Philip was the son of the late Roy Foster and Marguerite Foster, of Bangor. Philip lost his battle with cancer and passed away at his home in Bangor on May 24. He was a graduate of Easton High School and Ricker College in Houlton. After spending four years in the U.S. Navy and receiving an honorable discharge, he went on to enter law school and was admitted to the bar in the same year he graduated from that school, in 1971. He worked as a clerk in the office of Judge Archibald in Houlton for three years and then started his own firm in Ellsworth. A few years later he was joined by his brother, Stephen, and in 2003 his son, Matthew, joined the firm. Philip was a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and a member and past president of the Ellsworth Chamber of Commerce, as well as several other organizations. He is survived by: his mother, Marguerite, in Bangor; by his loving wife, Christa, of Bangor; two sons, Matthew and Michael Foster, both of Ellsworth; and one granddaughter, Aliza Marie, of Ellsworth. He also leaves two sisters, Molly Malcolm, of Owls Head, and Joan Turner, of Easton, and his brother, Stephen, of Ellsworth, and their families. Philip’s wife is from Germany and so he leaves many of her family over there. He was predeceased by his brother, William Foster, several years ago. Funeral services were held at the First United Methodist Church in Bangor with the Rev. Dr. Randall Chretien officiating. There was a Masonic memorial service held after the service. Philip was buried in the Mount Hope Cemetery, on State Street, Bangor. Those wishing to remember Phil may do so to the CancerCare of Maine, care of Eastern Maine Charities, P.O. Box 931m Bangor, ME 04402-0931.
Our sympathy also goes out to the family of 44-year-old Archie Ladner, who passed away unexpectedly at his home on the Graham Road on Sunday, May 25. He was the son of the late Earl and Ferne Ladner. Archie was a big, good-natured young man who would do most anything asked of him. He loved his collection of guitars. He at one time drove big rigs. He will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews. He leaves behind three brothers: Arthur and family, of Presque Isle; Ernest and family, of Bowdoinham; and Randy and family, of Easton. He also leaves two sisters: Linda Curtis and family, of Arundel; and Bonnie Sandoval, of Pearland, Texas, and her family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Earl “Sonny” Ladner. A graveside service was held on Thursday, May 29, at Estes Park Cemetery, with Pastor Matthew Maxwell officiating. Donations in his memory may be mailed to Randy Ladner, P.O. Box 214, Easton, ME 04740.
We also extend our sympathy to the family and friends of 89-year-old M. Freda Langley, of Easton, who passed away after a long illness, on Wednesday, May 28. Freda had been a resident of the Mars Hill health care facility for many years. She was married to Rupert Langley who predeceased her years ago. They made their home on the Station Road in Easton where the Ferris One Stop Station now stands. Freda worked for many years for the W.T. Grant Department Store as floor manager. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a foster daughter, Romona Langley Swoger, and four brothers, William, Leonard, Edward and George Dixon and two sisters, Laura Dixon and Adelia McCarthy. She has one living brother, Lloyd Dixon and family, and one sister, Annie  Goodine, and family, all of Aroostook, New Brunswick, Canada. She also has two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Dixon and family of Saco, and Gertrude Dixon of Pembroke, Ontario. A mass of christian burial was celebrated on Friday, May 30, at St. Denis Catholic Church in Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie, celebrant. Interment followed at the Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle. A time of fellowship with refreshments was held at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may donate to her memory to the organization of one’s choice.
