DYER BROOK — It looks like it might be a while before Dyer Brook Community Church can hold services at its regular Route 2 home, but church members are staying optimistic.
“Everyone’s been very positive and flexible,” said Pastor Andy Harthorne.
Harthorne was at the church during a short, but powerful thunder and lightning storm May 19. During the storm, lightning struck the steeple; resulting smoke and water damage wrecked havoc in their sanctuary, damaging carpet, insulation, sheetrock and more. Other sections of the building were not damaged.
The building was insured, but Harthorne didn’t have any estimates as to when services could reconvene. In the meantime, the congregation has been meeting next door at Southern Aroostook Community School (SACS).
“We’re really thankful to the school for letting us use their facility,” said Harthorne. “And we’re also really thankful to area fire departments who were here that day. They did a great job and got here quickly. It definitely could have been a lot worse.”
Dyer Brook Community Church meets at 10 a.m. on Sundays in the multi-purpose room at SACS.
