From distributing food, shelter, clothing and water to standing on the front line of disaster as a means of relief, Pine Tree Chapter of the American Red Cross staff and volunteers have gone above and beyond normal financial means and because of the continued support through donations and volunteerism, that help continues to be felt by those still recovering today.
Recently, the Katahdin Trust Company, who has been collecting donations on behalf of the American Red Cross, accepted a generous donation from the staff of FA Peabody in Houlton and its sister offices.
“We kicked off fund-raising efforts for victims recovering from the flood that occurred this spring,” explained Katahdin Trust Company Senior Vice President Vicki Smith. “The bank gave a $10,000 contribution and we’ve been collecting money at all of our locations in northern Maine.”
Katahdin Trust paid a visit to the FA Peabody Company in Houlton on Thursday, June 19 to pick up another donation for the American Red Cross disaster relief fund. FA Peabody Company staff made the presentation in support of the flood victims affected in Aroostook County.
“We held Dress Down Days on Fridays for the month of May,” said FA Peabody employee Dawn Nickerson. “Employees paid $2 on each Friday. All of the FA Peabody offices took part.”
Donations were also collected from customers and the net balance was $410.62. FA Peabody executives topped that number off to make the contribution an even $500.
“We’re very appreciative of the efforts of the folks at FA Peabody,” said Smith. “And for choosing the Red Cross.”
