A Caribou man is facing up to 40 years in prison and $2 million fine after being found guilty of several drug-related charges, according to a statement issued by the U.S. Attorney’s office in Maine.     Anthony Caparotta, 42, along with Raymond Fogg , 54, of Winn were found guilty after a five-day trial in U.S. District Court in Bangor. They were convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and distribute marijuana. Fogg was also found guilty of Social Security fraud.
The jury also found that a vehicle owned by Caparotta represented the proceeds of his drug trafficking activity.
The evidence shows that from 2003 to 2006 Caparotta and Fogg conspired with Michael Pelletier and other to possess and distribute marijuana. The drug had been smuggled across the St John River into the United States from Canada by people working for Pelletier. The drug was then redistributed through Caparotta and Fogg.
Pelletier was convicted last year and sentenced to life in prison.
A sentencing date has not been announced.
