Wal-Mart captures town championship

    HOULTON – The Houlton Little League town championship for the 9-10-year-olds was held last Friday night at Houlton Community Park.

    The Houlton Wal-Mart team defeated Rotary Club, 11-7.
    It was a close game, with Wal-Mart leading 6-5 after the third inning, but in the bottom of the fourth, Wal-Mart knocked in four runs to take a 10-5 lead. Rotary scored twice in the top of the sixth, and Wal-Mart added another run in the bottom of the frame.
    For Wal-Mart, Dallas Moore threw four innings, allowing three hits and three unearned runs, while striking out eight. He helped his own cause from the plate going 4-for-4, with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored.
    Connor Grant went 2-for-2 from the plate for Wal-Mart, with a pair of walks, two stolen bases and a run scored. Cameron Graham doubled, singled and walked, driving in two runs. Nick Botting and Tyler Brown each had a single and walk for the winners.

RUNNERS-UP – Houlton Rotary Club were runners-up in the 9/10-year-old town championship.     For Rotary, Parker Brewer led the way offensively, going 3-for-4, with a double, a pair of singles and an RBI. Garrett Putnam was 2-for-3, hitting a double, single, walk, while scoring twice. Billy Phillips singled twice, while Garrett Ring drew three walks, stole three bases and scored twice.
