Bottle drive helps pet shelter

To the editor:
The Caribou Chamber of Commerce & Industry (along with several generous Caribou Pet Rescue Board members) is going to have a City-Wide Bottle Drive at the Bennett Drive Redemption Center, The Empty Jug, and DoDo’s Market and Redemption Center on Monday, July 7th to help Caribou Pet Rescue!     We will also have a truck parked at the Burger Boy parking lot, and at the DMV on Bennett Drive on the 7th – so you can drop your bags of returnables off (without having to wait) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please help us spread the word!
From July 8th thru July 18th – the CCC&I will be having a “continuous” Bottle Drive contest between LDA/Caribou businesses from July 8th thru July 18th at Dodo’s Market and Redemption Center and The Empty Jug.
The winning business will be featured in our next newsletter, and receive two free cats!  We will have tally sheets for the redemption centers, and tags to easily mark any bags of bottles dropped off at these locations with the name of your business.  Please help us spread the word with your neighbors, employees, friends and families and make an effort to drop your returnables off at any of these three locations during those two weeks.
In this tough economy, donations to all public non-profits are hurting.
As usual, by necessity, animal rescue organizations are on the bottom of the ladder to receive help.  Caribou Pet Rescue (CPR) has seen public donations drop by more than 85 percent in the past three months.
People just do not have the funds to buy fuel, gas, rent, groceries, medicines and all the other that have to be at the top of the priority ladder.
As a rescue organization with less than three years of service, CPR has no savings back-up remaining to help us through this difficult time, they are taking drastic measures.
If you work at a business or run a business, perhaps you could offer a nickel jar on your check-out counter or desk. This jar that tells that the nickels in your pocket combined with other people’s nickels can help save the life of an animal needing medical care.
Every nickel counts in providing funds to create quality care and health programs for healthy, happy animals!
Many very good people are pulling together to save Caribou Pet Rescue during this difficult economy.
In just two and one-half years, Caribou Pet Rescue has helped 1,300 stray, abandoned, and abused animals.
We are hopeful that many more with do whatever they can to help CPR continue to save the lives of all the wonderful animals. Your help is needed now.
Caribou Pet Rescue is located at 6 Richards Rd, PO Box 488, Caribou, Maine 04736. The CPR telephone is 498-3800. Caribou Pet Rescue can be located on Petfinder.com and the email address for information is to Norma Milton milton@mfx.net
