PRESQUE ISLE – The Pool and Pine Street fields were the sites of the Men’s Class D District Softball Tournament June 27-28. Bee Jay’s from Fort Kent prevailed besting Buck’s Construction in the championship game. Buck’s came back to tie the game at seven headed into the bottom of the last inning. Bee Jay’s scored the game-winning run with two outs on a sharply hit single for the final score 8-7.
Bee Jay’s Tracy Hartt scored the final run while Troy Guerrette helped going four-for-four at bat. Tim Desjardins tallied three hits over four at bats.
Buck’s was led by Brandon Bell who went three-for-four with a triple, and Chad Lavway hitting two-of-three including a double.
Buck’s forced the second championship game after defeating previously undefeated Bee Jay’s 10-7 in the previous matchup. Buck’s plated four runs in the top of the last inning to turn the one-run deficit into the three-run victory. Mike Patenaude belted two singles and a double, and Kenny Cameron added four hits in the win. Marshall White hit two-for-two including a double.
The third-place team was Watson Wells of Houlton, and in fourth was Enman Riverside of Caribou. Desjardins of Bee Jay’s was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Also participating in the tournament were the Houlton Merchants, Houlton Heavy Hitters, Tobique Soaring Eagles and Griffeth Ford of Presque Isle.
The local Men’s Softball League will be back in action July 25-27 as they host the E District tournament.
