Monster Truck to perform at Speedway,

    CARIBOU — The original ‘Monster Truck’, Bigfoot, will make a special appearance at Spud Speedway in Caribou on Sunday, July 6.     The monster truck will be part of a special 4th of July Weekend at the Caribou Speedway. In addition to Bigfoot the track will feature a full card of racing plus a 100-lap Bomber Race.
    The event is being sponsored in part by Hogan Tire Company and will benefit Camp Adventure, a children’s diabetes camp directed by Cary Medical Center.
    Bill Flagg, Cary’s director of community relations and development, said that the event was made possible thanks to a generous contribution from Hogan Tire Company and the owners of Spud Speedway.
    “We were looking for an event that could generate a big boost for our diabetes camp”, said Flagg, who is helping to coordinate the event.
    “We met with Greg Veinote and his wife Rebecca to discuss the idea of an event at the track and they were very open and generous. Their help and the generous sponsorship of Hogan Tire Company to bring Big Foot for our event really got us excited. We are looking for a huge crowd on Sunday and hope to raise a lot of money.”
    Camp Adventure is a one-week residential camp established by Cary Medical Center to benefit children with diabetes. Operational for 11 years, the camp has received support from numerous organizations over the years. Ann Gahagan, RN, NSN, FNP, who directs the camp, said that children benefit so much from the camp experience thanks to generous donors.
    “We have been so fortunate to attract generous donors to our camp. We are getting more and more children wanting to attend and this year we were filled to capacity. We are very thankful to Hogan Tire and Spud Speedway for their support. Our camp teaches children that they can live a full and active life with diabetes. The camp allows the children to experience real adventure based activity and to control their diabetes at the same time. The children love this program and we know that it is something they will take with them for a lifetime.”
    Jody Anderson, of Hogan Tire Company said that he was pleased to be involved in the fund-raising event.
    “We were pleased when Cary Medical Center approached us about sponsoring this event,” said Anderson. “We learned about the diabetes camp and thought this was a great program and we were glad to help out. We also are excited about getting involved with Spud Speedway. This is a great attraction for the area and we hope that people really respond to this event.”
    Tickets to the event are $5 for the entire day. Greg Veinote owner of the track said that you can’t match the value for real family entertainment.
    “We established a ticket price that we knew families could afford and we are staying with it,” said Veinote, who opened the track last year. “We have had great response and we do all we can to make sure this is entertainment the entire family will enjoy. We also want to be part of the community and we are pleased to help generate a way to benefit charitable organizations.”
