Tennis awards
    Caribou High School tennis player Franz Zehentner was recently named to the 2008 All-State Tennis Team. Zehentner played number-one singles for the Vikings.     Head coach John Habeeb was also honored as the 2008 boys’ Coach of the Year. (Look for the story in an upcoming issue.)
Sports History
    As part of Caribou’s sesquicentennial celebrations in 2009, The Aroostook Republican will run photographs and stories about the history of the city.

Biking events
    A Presque Isle time trial (Maine TT #8) will take place on Saturday, July 19 beginning at 1 p.m. on the Parsons Road.
    The 14-mile road race/ride is part of the Maine Time Trial series. The registration fee is $20 or $15 is preregistered by emailing info@melsmojo.com or calling Melanie at 760-9500.
    The Spudcycle Classic will take place on Sunday, July 20 as part of the Potato Blossom Festival events.
    Registration opens at the Fort Fairfield Recreation Department at 8:30 a.m. with the kids’ event at 9 a.m. and the adult ride at 10 a.m. The route is 26-miles.

MWSC announcements     
    Saturday, July 5 MWSC will host a tour of Stockholm that will include running, roller-skiing, paddling and off-road biking. For more information, contact Will Sweetser at 227-3322.
    The MWSC biathlon and cross country training group will meet from July 9-13 in Fort Kent. For more information, contact Gary Colliander at 227-3863.
    The Musterd Mile will take place on Saturday, July 12 in Caribou. Registration is taken at the Caribou High School with the race beginning at 7 p.m. For more information, contact Bruce Freme at 496-8731.
    The MWSC will host a youth wilderness canoe trip from July 15-17 on the ancient native canoe route of the Fish River chain. Youth aged 11- to 14-years-old are welcome to participate.

    Several group rides will be held weekly by Mojo’s and the Nordic Heritage Center. Helmets are required.
    Mondays: women’s no drop road ride for all abilities beginning at 5:30 p.m. from Mojo’s. Mondays: moderate to fast-paced mountain bike ride beginning at 6 p.m. at the Nordic Heritage Center. Tuesdays: all abilities no drop mountain bike ride beginning at 6 p.m. at the Nordic Heritage Center. Wednesdays: moderate to fast-paced mountain bike ride beginning at 6 p.m. at the Nordic Heritage Center. Saturdays: all abilities no drop road ride beginning at 8 a.m. from Mojo’s.
    Weekly spinski group rides will be held in Caribou and Presque Isle. Helmets are required. Tuesdays: moderate to fast-paced beginning at 5:30 p.m. from S.W. Collins in Caribou. Thursdays: moderate to fast-paced beginning at 5:30 p.m. from Mojo’s in Presque Isle.
    Aroostook River paddle nights will be held weekly from Washburn to Presque Isle on Wednesday nights at 5:30 p.m. Paddlers will meet at Perception of Aroostook, 9 Caribou Road, Presque Isle for a two to three hour casual paddle. A kayak shuttle is available for $10, and rentals for $30.
