Player of the year
Ashland Hornet Whitney Flint was awarded the 2008 Class D Softball Player of the Year award for the Eastern region.
Flint pitched an undefeated record until the loss against Bangor Christian in the Eastern Maine finals.
Biking events
A Presque Isle time trial (Maine TT #8) will take place on Saturday, July 19 beginning at 1 p.m. on the Parsons Road. The 14-mile road race/ride is part of the Maine Time Trial series.

The Spudcycle Classic will take place on Sunday, July 20 as part of the Potato Blossom Festival events.
Registration opens at the Fort Fairfield Recreation Department at 8:30 a.m. with the kids’ event at 9 a.m. and the adult ride at 10 a.m. The route is 26-miles.

Monster Truck will perform at Spud Speedway
The original ‘Monster Truck’, Bigfoot, will make a special appearance at Spud Speedway in Caribou on Sunday, July 6.
The monster truck will be part of a special 4th of July Weekend at the Caribou Speedway. In addition to Bigfoot the track will feature a full card of racing plus a 100-lap Bomber Race.
The event is being sponsored in part by Hogan Tire Company and will benefit Camp Adventure, a children’s diabetes camp directed by Cary Medical Center.
Tickets to the event are $5 for the entire day.
Greg Veinote owner of the track said that you can’t match the value for real family entertainment.

As part of Fort Fairfield’s sesquicentennial celebrations this year and Presque Isle’s in 2009, The Star Herald will run photographs and stories about the history of both towns.

Saturday, July 5 MWSC will host a tour of Stockholm that will include running, roller-skiing, paddling and off-road biking.

The Musterd Mile will take place on Saturday, July 12 in Caribou. Registration is taken at the Caribou High School with the race beginning at 7 p.m.

The MWSC will host a youth wilderness canoe trip from July 15-17 on the ancient native canoe route of the Fish River chain. Youth aged 11- to 14-years-old are welcome to participate.
