FORT FAIRFIELD – Horses and their riders gathered at the Pine and Spurs Riding Club in Fort Fairfield on July 20 for the second in a series of three horse shows this summer.

Thirty-five equestrians competed in halter, showmanship, equitation, pleasure and timed competitions with high point awards given in five divisions.
Beginning at the Northern Maine Fair, the Pine and Spurs Riding Club moved their horse shows to the Fort Fairfield property in the 1970s, and has continued their shows each summer. The club has 75 members, but spectators need not be a member to attend the shows.
“Many of the participants camp overnight at the show grounds, and enjoy cookouts, bonfires and camaraderie,” said Kim Cheney, participant and organizer.
