Youth baseball results
    On July 28, weekly baseball action kicked off with Key Bank taking on Katahdin Trust. Key Bank took the game by a score of 7-4. Joseph Boone got the win on the mound, striking out 10 batters in four innings of no hit, no run baseball.  Khasen Lowe struck out five batters in three innings for Katahdin Trust. Nick Bartlett hit a home run for Katahdin Trust, and Jon Henderson added a single. Grant Stewart paced the Key Bank offense with a single.
    Savings Bank and K of C met up in the night cap Monday night. Savings Bank prevailed in a pitcher’s duel, 2-0. Taylor Williams got the win on the mound for Savings Bank, combining with Brycen Libby to give up just two hits and strike out 17 batters. Cooper Madore pitched well in defeat, finishing with 12 strikeouts in the complete game effort. Cole Staples and Jack James knocked out hits for K of C. Savings Bank was led by two hits apiece from Josiah Morse, Taylor Williams and David Kofstad.
    Katahdin Trust knocked off Savings Bank Friday morning by a count of 4-3. Bartlett crushed two doubles to pace Katahdin Trust’s offense. Lowe, Ryan Player, Eddie Kilcollins and Connor Murchison all added singles. Savings Bank got singles off the bats of Morse and Drew Henderson.
    Alex Brewer out-dueled Denny Young on the mound as Key Bank took the 4-3 decision from K of C. Brewer also singled to help his cause on the mound. Key Bank received a double from Boone and Stewart as well. James exploded for a double and a single, Madore and Young both doubled and Michael Mahon singled for K of C.
PI Classic Bike Race
    Seven cyclists braved the elements in the fourth annual PI Classic Bike Race Sunday morning. Von Perry from Easton out-sprinted the opponents to win the 22 mile race in a time of 1:00:24. Finishing second in the closest call in the event’s history was Matt Michaud from Fort Kent in a time of 1:00:25. Bart Plourde, also from Fort Kent, crossed the line in third with a time of 1:00:27. Pierre-Yves Gervez of Fort Kent ended in fourth with a time of 1:00:35. Devin Higgins of Presque Isle was fifth in a time of 1:01:35 , crossing the line with a flat front tire. Aaron Churchill of Orland edged out Presque Isle’s Steve Higgins for sixth. Churchill finished in 1:06:12, just a second ahead of the elder Higgins.
