    Topsfield, Mass. – Barbara M. (Winship) Carlson, 83, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, August 8th, 2008 following a brief illness. She was born and raised in Mapleton, ME, and worked in the Boston area during WW II  where she met and subsequently married her future husband, Roy C. Carlson, Jr. in 1949.
    Barbara was a graduate of Patten Academy, Maine State Normal School in Machias, ME and also took bookkeeping courses at Bryant and Stratton Business School in Boston. She was a devoted wife and mother, and delighted in the lives of her daughters and granddaughters. She loved to read a good book and enjoyed daily crossword puzzles. For eleven years Barbara and Roy enjoyed summering at their camp on Upper Mattawamkeag Lake in Island Falls, ME. She was an active member of Byfield Parish Church.
    Barbara is survived by her beloved husband, Roy, of Topsfield, MA; two daughters, Susan M. Carlson of Kalamazoo, MI, Nancy C. Gunnoe; son-in-law, Eric L. Gunnoe; two granddaughters, Elspeth and Mollie Gunnoe, all of Yarmouth, ME. She is also survived by several siblings, Pauline Bryan, Parker Winship, Marion Hertz, Edwin Winship, and Joyce Hunter, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Mae (Guiggey) Winship; and her sister, Charlene Stockley; and brother, Herbert Winship.
    A celebration of Barbara’s new life with her Lord will be held on Friday, August 15th , 11 a.m. at Byfield Parish Church, 132 Jackman St., Georgetown, MA. Visiting hours will be Thursday, August 14th,  4-8 p.m. at F. S. Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 14 Independent St., Rowley, MA. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Topsfield, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Barbara may be made to Byfield Parish Church Missions Committee, 132 Jackman St., Georgetown, MA 01833. For additional information please call 978-948-7763.
