America’s first log home company

    HOULTON – Ward Cedar Log Homes is the nation’s first log home company. For over 85 years, Ward has manufactured pre-cut, numbered and graded northern white cedar log homes and cabins, along with commercial buildings.
   The company’s corporate office is located at 37 Bangor St. in Houlton, while its manufacturing division is situated near the Houlton airport.
   Ward Cedar Log Homes has prided itself on being a premier log home manufacturer through the years by defining and refining how best to fill all of their customer’s expectations.
   “We sell a ‘big-ticket’ item, one that will not be sold or traded within a short period of time,” said Dana Delano, director of sales and marketing. “Building a home, especially a log home, is a lifetime dream for many people.”
   When it comes to customer service, Delano said, “We do not just deliver a pile of logs. We work with our customers from the design through the completion of the entire process of construction. Referrals from past customers are important to our future business.”
   The company’s founder, Bruce Ward, started assembling pre-cut log cabins from surplus telephone poles in 1923. Ward’s early designs became a huge success leading to the business’ reputation of building first-class homes. The company has bloomed over the years into what is now a company of the latest technology in computer-aided design, engineering and construction.
   The company’s commitment to quality remains as true today, under owner Jonathan French, as it did 85 years ago. One of the secrets to Ward Cedar Log Homes’ success is founded in many long-term employees, as well as, a good local work force, said French.
   “Our employees take great pride in creating beautiful homes,” he said. “From designing to manufacturing, each home is cut for a specific customer with specific requirements.”
