HOULTON –  Contributing to community and providing the best legal service for clients is the goal of Cleary Law  Office.
Richard Cleary has been practicing law since 1993, and opened his own Houlton law firm in 1996. He provides legal services, including real estate, personal injury, family law, civil and corporate law and serves as the Chapter 7 Bankruptcy trustee for Aroostook County.
As part of his appointment as Chapter 7 Bankruptcy trustee, Cleary has received intensive training at the National Advocacy Center in Columbia, S.C. The program, sponsored by the Department of Justice and the United States Trustee Office, focused on key aspects of serving as a bankruptcy trustee including civil and criminal enforcement.
Cleary says he wants his clients to know he provides efficient and quality service no matter what the case.
“I think people find us friendly, personable and they enjoy working with us,” Cleary said. “We have made good relationships in the community, and we are able to get things done when people need them done.”
Even though Cleary isn’t selling a product, he still believes customer service is paramount for him.
“It’s very important,” he said. “It’s all about meeting the needs of our clients.”
Cleary Law Office is located at the former First National Bank at 28 Market Square in Houlton.
“The move in 2005 to the former First National Bank building has been good for us. The court house, Registry of Deeds, Key Bank and the Houlton Federal Credit Union are close by, as are a number of attorneys that we work with on a regular basis.  The First National Building itself has a lot of history,” Cleary said. “It seems everyone who comes in, whether it be lawyers, legal professionals, bankers or clients, all have a story about this building and, of course, a lot of people enjoy viewing the old bank vault.”
Cleary works with his wife Robin in the office and the couple has a daughter, Rachel. He is in the Maine Legislature, as the state representative for District 8, which comprises Houlton, Hodgdon, Cary Plantation, Amity and Orient. He is an assistant coach with the Aroostook Football League.
His paralegal, Angela Rockwell, and her husband Robert of Island Falls have three children. She coaches girls’ softball for grades 3-6 and serves as a school board member, as well.
