Sport Vehicles keeps engines running

HOULTON – For the last 21 years, Peter Ledger owner of Sport Vehicles has been repairing small engines.
“I love working on them,” he said. “It’s a good business.”
In the summertime, Sport Vehicles helps customers with supplying parts and making repairs on their push mowers and tractors, motorcycles, motorcycle tires and ATVs. And, in the wintertime, Ledger switches gears to work on snow blowers and snowmobiles.
“We supply all of the accessories, parts and pieces to keep them all running,” he said.
Another benefit that Sport Vehicles has on its competitors is that Ledger can order parts and make repairs on older style chain store brand lawn mowers and tractors like Craftsman and MTD, as well as off brands that were also sold in department stores.
“We can get practically any part for those old types of machines,” Ledger said. “We have microfiche cards so we can look up the part to order it. If someone has their model number or owner’s manual that came with the machine, we can research the part.”
Ledger says he appreciates the loyalty of those he already serves.
“Most of our customers are repeat customers,” he said. “Everyone has their own clientele and so do I. But, we get a lot of referrals and we always have room for new customers.”
Ledger feels privileged to be able to be self-employed and living in a small community.
“It’s great doing business with local people and getting their support,” he said.
Sport Vehicles is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon in the winter months. In the summer, the shop is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
