31st annual Kenney Reunion held

The 31st Kenney Reunion was recently held at the Aroostook Snowmobile Club with 75 family members in attendance. A blessing was provided prior to the potluck lunch, as well as a silent prayer for our troops overseas.

During the family meeting, new marriages and births of the expanding families were noted, as well as scholarships given to the eligible family members entering their freshman year this fall. The Kenney fund donated a racehorse cooler blanket in memory of Harold F. Kenney, which was presented to the winning horse of the third race last July. Also, 30 new folding chairs were donated in Harold’s memory to the Aroostook Snowmobile Club, and a monetary donation to the Castle Hill Grange. The 2009 officers elected were: Shawn McPherson, president; Janice (Chaisson) Seabury, vice president; Janet (Kenney) Hopkins, secretary; and Heather (Kenney) Winslow, treasurer. The family craft and food auction finished off the day and was enjoyed by all.

Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society
The Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society held its monthly meeting July 22. At the meeting, it was decided to cancel the bean supper due to lack of help in putting it on. Instead they voted to have a pie and ice cream social in September with music and door prizes. The date and time will be decided at their next meeting.
Haystack Historical Society
The Haystack Historical Society wishes to thank everyone who made its Pie/Ice Cream Sale so successful during Mapleton Daze. A special thank you goes to the bakers and server volunteers. Thank you to Rachel Burden who greeted the customers. Thank you to all of the people who toured the Museum that day musing the past Maple Leaf yearbooks, reading Mapleton history, and visiting with friends and neighbors. To everyone who enjoyed our homemade pies and homemade ice cream, “Thank you for helping to keep our Museum alive.”
Fresh produce has been available for sale at the Museum from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays this summer and will continue during the month of August. The annual Fall Supper and Auction will be held at the Museum Saturday, Sept. 6. The supper will be from 4:30-6 p.m. and the auction will follow promptly at 6 p.m. with Ron Leonard as our auctioneer. The supper will have our special beans baked by volunteers, Ivan Pratt’s famous baked ham, Jackie Haines’ delicious potato salad, and for dessert, we will have homemade gingerbread and cream.
