Cross country race
    The fourth annual Alumni/Community Night Cross Country race will be held on Friday, Aug. 15 at 7:30 p.m. beginning at the Caribou High School.
    The race is open to all individuals, and is a 2.7-mile course on illuminated trails. Age divisions include eighth grade and under, high school, 18 to 30, 30 to 40, 40 to 50 and over 50. There is no entry fee. Presque Isle youth hockey
    Presque Isle youth hockey is looking for adults interested in coaching or helping out with its five levels of youth hockey teams.

Cross country clinic
    Maine Running Company will be hosting an athlete and coach cross country running clinic on Monday, Aug. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. The clinic will be held at the University of Southern Maine Portland Campus.

    As part of Presque Isle’s sesquicentennial celebrations in 2009, The Star Herald will run photographs and stories about the history of sports in the town.

      MWSC announcements     
    The Washburn August Festival 5k road race will take place on Saturday, Aug. 16.
    The annual Tour De La Valee bicycle tours will take place on Sunday, Aug. 17 beginning in Fort Kent. There will be 25-, 50-, 62- and 100-mile tours of the St. John Valley. For more information, contact Roger Legasse at 834-3155.
    MWSC will host a roller-skiing time trail on Sunday, Aug. 17. The time trial takes place on the Ouellette Road, just north of Cross Lake off of Route 161. For more information, contact Gary Colliander at 227-3863.
    Mojo’s will host a family and friends cruiser ride on Saturday, Aug. 23 in Presque Isle as part of the Balloon Fest activities. The ride is free to the public. For more information, call 760-9500.
    Several group biks rides will be held every week. For mountain biking: Mondays at the Nordic Heritage Center at 6 p.m. for intermediate level, Tuesdays at the NHC at 6 p.m. for all levels, Tuesdays at 6 p.m. at the NHC is the kids’ mountain biking club, Wednesdays at the NHC for moderate ride at 6 p.m., Saturdays at the NHC at 2 p.m. for all abilities. For road rides: Mondays at Mojo’s at 5:30 p.m. for women of all levels, Tuesdays from S.W. Collins in Caribou at 5:30 p.m. for fast-paced ride, Thursdays from Mojo’s at 5:30 p.m. for fast-paced ride, Thursdays from Stockholm School at 5:45 p.m., Thursdays from Mojo’s from 6:45 to 8 p.m. is family and friends cruiser ride, Saturdays from Mojo’s at 8 a.m. for all levels.

Co-ed softball tourney slated
    A double elimination co-ed softball tournament will be held September 5-7 at the Houlton and Hodgdon softball fields. Cost is $140 per team. Deadline for registration is Friday, August 29.
