PRESQUE ISLE – Two local men have been charged in connection with a burglary at a Dyer St. business over the weekend.
“In the early morning hours of Monday, Aug. 18, a retired Presque Isle police officer called the Presque Isle Police Department to report a burglary in progress at the TA Service Center gated compound on Dyer St.,” said Det. Sgt. Wayne Selfridge, of the PIPD. Officers Kevin Reed and Robert Thibeault responded.
“After a silent response, the officers watched two burglars in the compound as they illegally entered vehicles parked there. The officers climbed the fence and arrested Brian J. Wood, 22, of Presque Isle, and Lucas R. Wynn, 21, formerly of Chapman, without incident,” said Selfridge.
Selfridge said further investigation of the crime scene revealed several cars had been ransacked with personal property and wiring pulled out and set aside for retrieval.
“Wood was charged with burglary, a Class C felony. Wynn was charged with burglary, a Class C felony; possession of burglary tools, a Class E misdemeanor; operating after suspension, a Class E misdemeanor; and possession of a Schedule W drug that was found in his possession, a class D misdemeanor,” said Selfridge, adding the motive for the burglary was to steal metals for sale to a local scrap dealer.
Value of the property had not been determined at presstime.
According to Selfridge, both Wynn and Wood are known to police, with Wynn having prior convictions for a 2007 theft and 2008 possession of drug paraphernalia. Wood has a record of a 2005 violation of condition of (bail) release and disorderly conduct.
“Both burglars, who reside on Chapman Rd., in Presque Isle, could not post their bail and were arraigned on Aug. 19 at Presque Isle District Court, with their first scheduled Caribou Superior Court hearing on the felonies scheduled for Oct. 17,” said Selfridge.
