It was a quiet week for the Caribou soccer teams, whose home games against Mount Desert Island Saturday were called off due to rain. Last Wednesday, the Vikings got the better of the Foxcroft Academy Ponies in a doubeheader played at Dover-Foxcroft.
The Caribou girls dominated to the tune of an 8-2 win, with Abby Small and Jenna Selander each collecting a hat trick with three goals each and Kristen Espling and Lydia Kieffer tallying single goals.
Brittany Doak saved 11 of 16 shots in goal for the Lady Vikes, who are currently in fourth place in the Eastern Maine Class B standings with their 6-2 record.
The Caribou boys find themselves in fifth place in their division. The Vikes have a 6-2-1 record after eking out a 3-2 triumph over winless Foxcroft.
Freshman Chad Caverhill scored a goal in his second consecutive game and it was the game-winner less than eight minutes into the second half.
Brandon Caverhill and Cameron Anderson also came through with goals for the Vikes.
Eric Brown did the job between the posts for the Caribou squad as he saved six of eight shots in the win.
The Caribou teams go back to work with matches against the Hermon Hawks on the road. The boys play today at 4 p.m., while the girls play Thursday, also at 4 p.m.
Besides the rescheduled MDI matches, both Viking squads have four teams remaining on their respective schedules before the playoff season gets under way later this month.
