Greenhouses — Mr. Harold Chadwick has opened his green houses on High Street and the people of Houlton can secure cut flowers all the year round at home.
Starch Factory — The Turf, Farm and Home think the Southern part of the state will have to establish starch factories if it is to compete with Northern Maine. The experience of the past season would seem to indicate that Southern Maine needs suitable soil more than anything to make it a serious competitor to Aroostook in the growing of potatoes.

Dealership — Houlton has been chosen as one of the towns in which every effort will be made to have a combined Buick and Pontiac dealership in the expansion program.
Etscovitch — The Etscovitch Motor Company at 12 Bangor Street has just taken on the local agency for Frigidaire, electric refrigerators and now has a complete line of the newest models on display at their showroom on Bangor Street.

Ricker College — The local college begins the academic year with a total enrollment of approximately 150 students.
Putnam feted — Cora Putnam, past grand matron of the Grand Chapter O.E.S. of Maine, was honored Monday evening at the regular meeting of Fidelity Chapter at the Masonic Hall. Mrs. Putnam has a remarkable record of service in the Order of Eastern Star.
Adams has special assignment — Ricker College freshman, Paul Adams, 23 has been named as student representative for the Pioneer Times to cover social activities, sports, and other events for both RCI and the college. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Adams, Bangor Road, Houlton.
Houlton visitors — Deborah Stewart and her cousin, Carol Delong of Presque Isle spent the weekend with Deborah’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Stewart, while their mothers attend the Teachers’ Convention in Bangor.

NEW POTATO HOUSES — Local farmers were busy having new potato houses built during the summer of 1958. Henry and Fred McBride of Littleton had theirs built on the Wiley Road in Littleton shown on left. George Henderson had his new storage, right, built on the Foxcroft Road in Littleton. The McBride potato house is still standing, but no longer used for potatoes. The Henderson potato house is gone. Marvin Flewelling of Littleton built both potato houses.

Hodgdon — The freshman class of Lancaster Bible College in Lancaster, Penn., selected Jodi London, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence London to be their representative in the Homecoming Queen’s Court for 1983.
Honorably discharged — Rose Ellen Donovan has been honorably discharged from the United States Air Force with the rank of Sergeant after four years of service working in the fire protection department. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred E. Donovan.
Haggerty at ‘Six Flags Over Georgia’— Linda Haggerty Maine’s Junior Miss in 1981 competed with more than 700 individuals to land a part in the seven-day-a-week show. She performs seven shows a day, five days a week, singing and dancing.
Fitzpatrick student teaches — Brian Fitzpatrick of Presque Isle, as student at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, has been assigned as a student teacher at Hodgdon High School for the fall semester.
