Vote for Mary DeAnne Rogan on Nov. 4th

To the editor:
November 4th 2008, election day, is rapidly approaching and I encourage all eligible voters to make an effort to get to the polls and cast your votes. With all this attention being focused on the national election we can’t forget that local elections are also taking place and sending the right candidates to Augusta is critically important.
When you do vote for a candidate for the Maine Legislature in House District 8, I hope you will consider voting for Mary DeAnne Rogan of Houlton. She is the Republican candidate for District 8 which includes the towns of Amity, Hodgdon, Houlton, Orient and Cary Plantation. Change seems to be the catch word in politics today and there is no place where change is needed more than in Augusta.
I have known DeAnne Rogan for several years, particularly during my 8 years in the legislature, and know her to be a person who has worked tirelessly in the background, year after year, with very little recognition, promoting the ideals and attitudes that characterize the good people of Southern Aroostook. Her political literature speaks of her as having Vision and Values, two words that describe her very well. In fact, these two words would describe a great many of the folks living in the towns in House District 8.
Having worked with her for many years, I know she believes, as I do, that the role of government is to serve the people, not for people to serve the government and that spending at all levels of government must be controlled to ensure fiscal stability for future generations. She also believes that Maine’s tax burden is too high and that reducing tax rates, including fees, will increase personal income and stimulate the economy. She strongly feels that the family is the foundation of a stable society and that parents, not government, are most capable to make decisions in the best interest of their minor children.
Mary DeAnne Rogan will work very hard to change some of the entrenched policies that have dominated the political landscape in Augusta for the last 30 years. Fundamental changes must be made in Augusta if Maine is to thrive in the coming years. DeAnne has proven to be a dedicated worker at the local level and I am convinced she will continue to work very hard in Augusta for the citizens of House District 8 if given the chance.
Again, please vote for Mary DeAnne Rogan on November 4th and give her that chance.
