Annual tax seminar scheduled

    PRESQUE ISLE – The 33rd annual Aroostook County Tax Seminar, sponsored by TD Wealth Management, will be held on Friday, Oct. 31, at the University of Maine at Presque Isle Campus Center.  Topics to be discussed include: hot topics in the insurance industry, various tax updates, overview of the Maine Public Employees Retirement System, ethics in tax planning and an overview of the Social Security System.     Presenters include: Mila Kofman, state of Maine’s superintendent of insurance; Shawn Savage, senior stakeholder liaison with the Internal Revenue Service; Brett Hoskins, retirement services specialist with the Maine Public Employees Retirement System; Daniel Wathen, attorney at Pierce Atwood LLP and former chief justice of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court; Jason Rossi and Trisha House, of the Presque Isle office of the Social Security Administration; and Tim Poitras, senior accountant at Chester M. Kearney CPA.
    Registration and coffee begins at 7:30 a.m., with the program commencing at 8 a.m. and ending at 4:30 p.m.  Lunch and refreshments will be provided. The cost of the seminar, including lunch and refreshments, is $60 for those registering before Oct. 15 and $65 for those who register thereafter.
