Image   CARIBOU – State Senate candidate Danny Deveau was one of several candidates for State Legislature who celebrated in the grand opening of the Victory 2008 office in Caribou, Oct. 4. The office will provide support for candidates up and down the Republican tickets. Other candidates at the well-attended event included Senator Roger Sherman, of Hodgdon, who is running for a second term in the State Senate, Peter Edgecomb, of Caribou, and Bernard Ayotte, of Caswell, who are both running for the House of Representatives.
“Augusta politicians should work for us, not the other way around,” Deveau said at the event.  “Too many of our politicians are saying they are taking action here at home, but are falling asleep at the wheel when they get to the State House. Today’s opening is a big step towards getting Aroostook County and the rest of Maine back on track.”
At the Oct. 4,community event, Deveau shared his plan to reduce the tax burden on families and small businesses, and to promote pro-growth policies that will strengthen farms and small businesses, creating new opportunities for Mainers. School control was also widely discussed. Deveau has been strong in his opposition to the Governor’s top-down takeover of local schools. His opponent, Rep. Troy Jackson, voted for the plan.
“Parents and our local school officials know what’s best for our students,” Deveau said. “Augusta values won’t work for Aroostook County education. I am the only candidate running in this race that will say NO to the Governor’s takeover of our schools. I will be a voice in Augusta that will bring our concerns for the County to the front and center of any debate. Nap time is over in Augusta, it’s time to get to work.”
Deveau’s Senate District encompasses Northern Aroostook County, including the towns of Caribou, Fort Kent, and Madawaska. To volunteer with the Deveau for State Senate Campaign, call Danny at 868-5469 or e-mail him at cyrplt@yahoo.com.
