LIFELINE FOR ANIMAL SHELTER — Karen Wade and Vickie Grant rallied animal lovers at York’s of Houlton and had a yard sale over two weekends in September in the company’s body shop with employees’ household items. They raised nearly $700 for the Houlton Humane Society and York’s added more than $300 to put them over the $1,000 mark. Wade, left, presented Emily Homchuck’s artfully designed jar containing cash from the sale last Thursday to Naomi Williams, the animal shelter director. Williams said the donation will keep the shelter going for at least another week. Cathy Davis, right, shelter president said: “Obviously we need the money and the money’s is always nice. But, that’s not the most important part. It’s the support …. We are very fortunate because this particular community, Houlton as a whole, is very generous and very giving and the business owners are very giving.”
