Island Falls news

Joe Lupsha, former resident of Island Falls, and good friend of Kicky’s and mine arrived on Saturday for a short visit. He was on his way to Mars Hill to take a ride up the mountain where all the windmills are and to look over the whole operation. He returned home to Hallowell that evening, which made it a long day for him.
Joyce and Diane Curry arrived at the Curry homestead to spend Columbus Day there and to also visit with friends and relatives in the area. They have since returned home to Portland.
Nephew Ed Wood has returned home to Wilton, N.H. after arriving this past Friday to winterize the family cottage on Mattawamkeag Lake. He enjoys kayaking and had hoped to get a few hours in on the lake, but the wind was much to strong and he had to forget that idea.
Don and Marion (Grant) Burton have returned home to Rancho Cordova, Calif. after spending the summer at their cottage upper Mattawamkeag Lake. Former residents of the area they always enjoy their summers here and look forward to coming again.
I still am finding a few skunk holes in my lawn, but I think they are about done with all that business. I haven’t seen any squirrels around my bird feeders yet, and I usually have at least two by now. Sure hope that black cat isn’t the one keeping them away. He is still around lurking sometimes under the cedar tree on the lookout for my chickadees. And I still have three does and two lambs arriving almost daily to graze down back The other day I decided to take out some cut-up old apples and a bit of bread for them. The lambs took off like a streak but the does were used to my voice, apparently, as they just stood there until I had left then came over and ate all the goodies. Finally the lambs reappeared, after they discovered it was safe but they were not in time for the apples and bread.
