Mary Woodworth turns 80 years old

    Mary Woodworth of Houlton celebrated her 80th birthday on September 20, with a day full of parties and surprises. Her day started with a visit by her nephew, Rev. Richard Rockwell of Ellsworth. She then attended a luncheon at the Courtyard Café, hosted by her family and attended by many friends and relatives.  Janet Bates read a poem on turning 80 and Mary’s daughters, Diane Corey of Littleton, Cindy Lindsay of Quantico, Va., and Paula Woodworth of Goldsboro, N.C. (who was a surprise visitor) performed a song, written by Paula, entitled “Mary’s Favorite things” (with apologies to Julie Andrews). Mary opened many cards and gifts and a birthday cake from the Pastry Corner was enjoyed by everyone. A beautiful bouquet of flowers was received from her nieces, Debra Atwood and Carol Jordan, both of the Bangor area.
    Prior to lunch being served, Mary received her biggest surprise of the day with the arrival of her granddaughters, Rochelle Corey of Ipswich, Mass., and Melinda Corey and her husband Jon Knock of Rockport, Mass., with their 10-day-old son, Caleb James Knock, who is Mary’s first great-grandchild.
    In the evening Mary enjoyed a birthday dinner at The Vault restaurant in Houlton, attended by her daughters and her nieces, Carol Jordan and Debra Atwood, along with their daughters, Jennifer Jordon Cammack and Ashley Atwood Megquier.
    Friends attending the luncheon were John Scott, Mary’s friend of 60 years, her “fourth daughter” Cathy Ledger, Cindy Milton, Doris Dickison, Maxine Corey, Nan Miller, Lois Elleiott, Judy Britton, Mapley Lindsay, Janet Bates, Dot Beals, Marie Wright, Nancy Lincoln, Norma London, Gerry Dunn, Lavina Byron, Norma Bates and Carol Lambert. Family members included; her daughters, Diane Corey and her husband Reg, Paula Woodworth and Cindy Lindsay; her grandchildren, Rochelle Corey, Melinda Corey, and her husband Jon Knock with their son Caleb; her nieces, Joyce Harris, Barbara Corey, Gwen Savoy and Sharon Merritt.
    Mary ended her day of fun and surprises relaxing in her recliner with her cat, Percy.
