Mapleton church plans several events

    The United Methodist Church luncheon will be held Friday, Oct. 24 at 11:30 a.m. Everyone is welcome to come. Hope to see you there.
    The church will hold a Chicken Pie Supper with all the fixings Saturday, Nov. 8 at 5:30 p.m.

Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Please call 764-1045 for tickets or ask any member of the church.
    The Mapleton Methodist Church will also hold its annual craft and food sale Saturday, Oct. 25 from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Coffee and muffins will be for sale from 9-10:30 a.m. The luncheon will begin at 11 a.m. Grandma’s Attic will also be held.

Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society
    They are requesting that anyone who has knowledge of a veteran who served in the military between 1903 to the present to write or call Natalie Maynard, 2877 State Road, Castle Hill, Maine 04757 or 764-4878. They need names, dates, and any information you can give them so they can place the names on a sign or in a book in the future. The person must have been a resident of Castle Hill at the time of service.
    The Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society’s next meeting will be Oct. 28 with the annual board of director’s meeting starting at 6:30 p.m.
Haystack Historical Society
    The Haystack Historical Society will hold its next regular monthly meeting on Monday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Museum.
Mapleton Baptist Church to hold ‘Presidential Forum’
    The Mapleton Baptist Church will hold a “Presidential Forum” Sunday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. David Raymond will discuss the Presidential Election 2008. The presentation will be followed by a group discussion.
    The church building is located directly across the street from the Mapleton Elementary School. For further information, please call 764-6034.
Mapleton Methodist Women
    Susan Mitchell, executive director of the Homeless Shelter of Aroostook, was the guest speaker at a recent meeting of the Mapleton Methodist Women.
    She explained how the shelter is operated, where the funding comes from and approximately how many clients they have. Lately, they have had at least 25 adults and some families. They provide three meals a day, seven days a week. They accept donations and left a “wish list” with the group. The Mapleton United Methodist Women have been providing one dinner meal a month to the shelter since May and have committed to do so for a year.

    Boys, Troop 170 – The boys from Scout Troop 170 are collecting donations of bottles and cans. Call Peter Starr at 764-8189 to make arrangements for a pick-up. As always, the boys appreciate all your support, which makes all their yearly activities possible.
    If you have any questions on joining, call Peter Starr at 764-8189. They hold their weekly meeting Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.
Mapleton Chapman Castle Hill Senior Citizens
    The Mapleton Chapman Castle Hill Senior Citizens meets every Monday – except the fifth Monday – at Mapletree Estates. All are welcome.

    MAPLETON’S NEWEST GIRL SCOUT TROUP, Daisy Troop 1133, recently visited the Presque Isle Fire Department. Guiding the girls through the tour was Firefighter Grant Spinney. The girls toured the building, had a chance to sit inside the fire trucks, met Sparky and Baby Sparky, and experienced smoke in a building inside the department’s safety trailer. The girls also met some of the other firefighters on duty and went home with helpful information to share with their families. Attending the tour were, front row, from left: Taylor Stephenson, Katelyn Amero, Alexis Getchell, Madelyn Buzza, Paige Trask and Bethany Baker. Back row: Delaney Alward, Brooke Trask, Baby Sparky, Firefighter Grant Spinney, Rebecca Rider and Amanda Winslow. Troop 1133 is led by Jennifer Buzza and Nancy Winslow.
