Free coaching clinic

The Maine Association of Basketball Coaches is sponsoring a free basketball coaches clinic, to be held at Caribou High School Nov. 5.
This free clinic is designed to help teach the basic fundamentals of the game of basketball to all interested coaches. The information is being geared toward elementary school, youth and recreation, AAU, freshmen and junior varsity coaches. All others interested in furthering his or her knowledge of coaching or of the fundamental skills of the game of basketball are welcome to attend.
The goal is to show the basic fundamentals and skills of individual defense and offense and provide methods and drills for teaching these skills. Although some aspects of team play will be discussed, the emphasis will be on the individual skills necessary for young players to develop their talents.
There will also be time devoted to the areas of “practice planning” and “dealing with parents.” If time allows, “motivational methods” will be discussed.
The local clinic will run from 6-8:30 p.m. and the featured clinicians are Caribou boys varsity coach Chris Casavant (offense), Presque Isle girls varsity coach Jeff Hudson (defense), Presque Isle boys varsity coach Tim Prescott (practice planning) and former Katahdin and Central Aroostook boys varsity coach Bill McAvoy (dealing with parents).
Similar clinics are being held at Thornton Academy, South Portland High School, Edward Little High School, Cony High School, Ellsworth High School and Hermon High School.
For more information on the Caribou clinic, contact Casavant during daytime hours at 493-4274.
