Amidst glittering candlelight and the strains of Dale Holden's beautiful harp music, board members of Houlton Children's Star Bright Theatre hosted a reception at the Vault Restaurant on Sept. 22. In addition to welcoming four new members to the board, special recognition was given to Ann Barnes for her many years of dedication and hard work on behalf of the group. Barnes was presented with her own director's chair, complete with her name printed on the back and the Houlton Children's Star Bright Theatre logo on the front. New board members, JoAnn Dunphy, Veronica Holyoke, Mary Miller and Frank Sullivan were welcomed and introduced to the many guests in attendance. Dunphy has been a teacher and elementary school principal in midcoast Maine as well as director of the gifted and talented program in SAD 70. Holyoke, a concert pianist and elementary and middle school teacher, is currently employed by SAD 29 and works at Wellington School. Miller, a Methodist minister, works as a music educator in the East Millinocket school system. Sullivan is a professional fine artist and art teacher who works and teaches at his Rainbarrow Studio in Littleton,
Board members also welcomed the new "guest" director for the 2009 season, Pam Chernesky. Chernesky is bringing many years of professional experience to HCSBT and is busy working on the play which will be performed in April.
Current board members, Ann Barnes, Barbara Hogan, Susan McMann, Regina Cunliffe, Margaret Hill, Paul and Glynn Porter and Jennifer Sylvester are very pleased to welcome these talented individuals to the Children's Theatre organization. Many plans have been made for new programming for this season, with a Reader's Theatre held Oct. 21, and several workshops for the new Drama Club members planned in the future.
