This past week Clayton Webb’s two nephews, Brian and Eddie Webb, sons of “Buddie “ and Audrey Webb, arrived at Clayton’s home to assist him in storing the many cords of fire wood for the coming winter. That was a long trip as they live in the Bangor area and it was much appreciated by  their uncle and now he won’t have to tote the wood up from his cellar.               Walt and Gwen O’Roak were in town for a few days last week , coming up from Camden where they will be staying this winter with their son, Jeff. They plan to return in December and have a family get-together at their home here as this is a tradition with the O’Roak family.
My son, Tom and grandson, Chris, arrived Saturday to put the finishing touches on getting everything ready at my place for the winter months. They arrived quite early so they were served a  big breakfast before heading out to work. I was hoping the deer family would show, but no such luck.
Last week’s heavy rain sure raised the level of the river and Rock Island on Mattawamkeag Lake was almost covered again. Just glad it wasn’t snow. I have several blue jays now at the feeders and my nuthatches are back also. I am kept pretty busy keeping them all fed, both birdseed and the peanut butter and lard mixture. The woodpeckers go for that more than the blue jays and chickadees.
I didn’t see any deer at all for a few days and then they suddenly appeared the other afternoon. When I went out to give them some old bread they didn’t seem alarmed at all — just waited patiently, while I threw it out. Even  the two lambs just stood there so I guess they know I’m no danger to them.
