Houlton Police Chief Butch Asselin recently accepted six Bentley Bears, to comfort children in crisis, from Ryan Bushey of Louisiana Pacific and Stephen Nelson of the law office, Severson, Hand & Nelson, when they met at the weekly Rotary Club luncheon, Monday.
Bushey and Nelson said their firms were happy to buy the bears as part of a fund-raiser. Half the money goes to support the Houlton Humane Society and the other half covers cost.
In addition to the police department, the bears will be used by the Houlton Fire Department and Houlton Regional Hospital to comfort children in distress during domestic violence calls, fire emergencies, accidents, etc. The Meduxnekeag Ramblers Snowmobile Club of Littleton also purchased one of Avon’s Bentley Bears for the United Vets Motorcycle Club’s annual Christmas Toy drive.
Darlene Kenney, a volunteer at the animal shelter and Avon representative, is selling the popular stuffed animal for $19.99 through Dec. 12 as a fund-raising tool for the animal shelter with guaranteed pre-Christmas delivery. She can be reached at 532-2895.
