HOULTON, Maine – This January, University College at Houlton will offer more than 400 courses from Maine’s seven public universities. To help students choose from the variety of off-campus courses and programs available in the spring semester, University College publishes an online schedule, as well as a printed guide that consolidates the distance learning courses of the seven universities.
These materials provide information about the dozens of university degrees and certificate programs, students can earn at University College at Houlton and at sites in Caribou, Fort Fairfield, Dyer Brook and Danforth. An overview of support services and other information for beginners and experienced learners alike are outlined.
“Each year the number and variety of distance education courses offered by the universities continues to grow,” said Chuck Ames, director of University College at Houlton. “These courses are ideal for busy adults who want to upgrade their credentials, but whose schedules won’t allow for the long term commute to campus.
The universities deliver courses to the University College center through several modalities. University instructors travel to the center to teach on-site or reach students from campus via interactive television and teleconference. Instructors also offer many courses online, allowing students to choose when and where they wish to participate in classes.
