PRESQUE ISLE – The UMPI/Community Band, directed by Kevin Kinsey, will celebrate its 10th season of musical performances with a Winter Concert to be held on Monday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. in Wieden Auditorium on the University of Maine at Presque Isle campus. The concert will feature the Maine premiere performance of the work “In Flight, “by Samuel R. Hazo. Hazo is a National Band Association award-winning young composer whose music has been described as a “fresh and exciting new voice for the repertoire of today.”
In addition, the concert will feature the “Folk Song Suite” by Ralph Vaughn Williams, “Irish Tune from County Derry” by Percy Grainger, “Orion” by Jan Van der Roost, as well as pieces by Charles Zimmerman, Jaime Texidor and John Philip Sousa. The performance concludes with Fred Jewell’s “Trombone Blues” and “Flight of Valor” by James Swearingen.
The UMPI/Community Band, approximately 50 members strong, is made up of UMPI students, alumni and community members from throughout Aroostook County. Admission is free and the auditorium is handicapped accessible.
