Gary Cleaves accepts an appreciation award presented by Geri Martin on behalf of the Greater Limestone Chamber of Commerce.

During the meeting, President Gary Cleaves was surprised to receive an appreciation award for the time and effort he has put into the Limestone Chamber of Commerce. Cleaves has been a part of the chamber for ten years and served as president for four.
“Being president of a Chamber is a privilege and I’m sure, a truly humbling experience,” said Geri Martin during her presentation of the appreciation award to Cleaves, “I realize that many people might not be aware of what the Chamber of Commerce does for Limestone, how much time and money is involved with hosting events.” Martin added, “This chamber is anon-profit volunteer based organization. When no one stepped up to the plate to take the presidency one year, Mr. Cleaves stepped up to the place for a second time. He knows how vital the Chamber is to the Town of Limestone.”
Cleaves is no longer president of the chamber; he was replaced by newly elected Jane Griffith. Griffith thanked those who voted her into office even though she ran unopposed. During her acceptance speech, she stated that, like any other volunteer organization, the Limestone Chamber of Commerce is looking for members.
“We’re looking forward to maybe increasing our membership this year,” she said, “Anyone can be a part of the Chamber as long as they’re interested in their community.”
The Chamber of Commerce is involved in many organized events such as the Fourth of July festivities and the Christmas Lights Parade, which will take place this Sunday.
During the meeting, the chamber elected it’s new officials. Jane Friffeth was elected President of the Chamber of Commerce, Donna Struzl and Brad Nadeau were elected to the two vice-president positions; Lisa Anderson was chosen to be the secretary, and Mary Amuzzini was chosen as the Treasurer.
The Board of directors includes Grace O’Neal, Geri Martin, Wendy Bencivinga, Kristie Pelkey, and Vicki Page.
“[The Chamber of Commerce] is trying to draw new business into the community and trying to ake enough activities in town to bring people here,” said Cleaves, “We do quite a few events in town.”
“It’s a good group of people to work with,” Cleaves added.
