FORT FAIRFIELD – Alton A. Gustin, Sr., 80, died peacefully at his residence on November 19, 2008. He was born October 24, 1928, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Henry C. and Myrtle (Fields) Gustin.
Alton attended local Fort Fairfield schools before serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1953, he started work at Aroostook Baking Company which later became LePage Bakery. He retired in 1986 after 34 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Dorothy (Getchell) Gustin of Fort Fairfield; his children, Alton (Sonny) Gustin, Jr. and his wife Debi of Fort Fairfield, Connie (Gustin) Gersteling and her husband John of Australia, Barry Gustin and his wife Glenda of Lewiston, Idaho, and Heidi (Gustin) Benn of Cape Elizabeth. He will be greatly missed by ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, three sisters and a very special son-in-law, Rodney L. Benn.
A private graveside service was held Monday, November 24, 2008, at Fairmount Cemetery with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating.
