LIMESTONE – Faculty, staff and students at the Maine School of Science and Mathematics (MSSM) recently took time to honor their cafeteria workers This Thanksgiving MSSM decided to give back to the ladies who make their food service a delight.

A surprise assembly was held for the workers, who arrived in full uniform. Danielle Deschaine delivered each of the ladies a special gift bag and told a brief story about each of their unique talents in the kitchen. The 11 ladies had an impressive total of 56 and one- half years of service in the LCS/MSSM kitchen.
The longest service having been provided by Sarah Rossignol, who was hired in May of 1995. Rossignol lives in Limestone and has children who attend the Limestone Community School. She, like so many of the other cafeteria workers, volunteer as “house parents,” and open their homes to MSSM students who participate in athletics and other activities that take place over school vacations.
To many of the students at the MSSM, these ladies are like mothers away from home, providing not just a nutritious meal, but a warm and friendly atmosphere for everyone. The cafeteria is in operation seven days a week, providing students who live in the dorms with meals on weekdays and weekends. The cafeteria serves a special brunch on Saturday and Sunday for students where they can have their own personally made omelets as well as pancakes, bagels, muffins, fruits, home fries, sausage, tea and just about every other breakfast food you can think of. It doesn’t stop there; these women have to be aware of a multitude of allergies as well as dietary needs for vegetarians.
The LCS/MSSM kitchen functions like a well oiled machine, and provides for both the MSSM student body as well as the Limestone Community School. The cafeteria ladies were greeted to a standing ovation and refreshments (which they didn’t even have to make). This Thanksgiving MSSM is giving back to those who give of their time, efforts, kindness, and love to so many people in the community of Limestone.
