AUGUSTA — Senator Troy Jackson (D-Aroostook) of Allagash, was sworn-in to the Maine State Senate, on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at the Statehouse in Augusta. Sen. Jackson was elected to his first term in the Senate in November after having served three terms, or six years, in the Maine House of Representatives.

The 124th Maine Legislature was called to order Dec. 3, with members of the Senate and House of Representatives being sworn into office at that time. Participating in the swearing in ceremony was newly elected Senator Troy Jackson (D-Aroostook) of Allagash. Sen. Jackson begins his first term in the Maine Senate, having served three terms, (six years), in the Maine House of Representatives. Witnessing the swearing in ceremony were a number of Sen. Jackson’s family members.
“It is an honor and a privilege to have been elected to represent northern Maine, my home, in the Maine State Senate,” said Sen. Jackson. “My six years in the Maine House of Representatives has prepared me to tackle the mountain of challenges facing us in the upcoming session. I’m ready from day one.”
Sen. Jackson was sworn in to the 124th Legislature, alongside 19 other Democratic senators and 15 Republican senators. The day-to-day operations of the First Regular Session of the 124th Legislature begins in January.
Jackson was born and raised in the St. John Valley. He graduated from Allagash Consolidated Community High School in Allagash and from the University of Maine at Fort Kent with a business degree. He is a strong labor advocate, who in recent years has led the cause for fair wages for loggers and independent truckers. While a member of the House, Troy sponsored several pieces of legislation to address logging issues. He served as the House chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and has served on the Joint Standing Committee on Labor.
“I’m here in Augusta to do what I’ve always done, fight for the people of The County and ensure that they are not forgotten,” said Sen. Jackson. “Now more than ever, we need to work toward greater access to good paying jobs, access to affordable higher education, lower property taxes, and an overall better quality of life. I’m looking forward to addressing these issues in the Maine Senate.
Sen. Jackson represents 38 northern Aroostook County communities in Senate District 35.
