LIMESTONE — The Limestone planning board met at 6:30 on Dec. 11th to discuss a site review for 77 Main St., possible updates to shoreland zoning/timber harvesting, and information regarding the creation of a wind turbine ordinance.     During the first part of the meeting, Joseph Lapierre, of Limestone, was granted land use permit/building permit for the construction of a business, which will be located at 77 Main Street. More information on the business, BLVD Graphix, can be found at http://www.BLVDgraphix.com
The planning board also discussed at length the possible creation of an ordinance regarding wind turbines. Talk of the ordinance is still new for Limestone, but they are planning on eventually holding a public meeting to obtain a better understanding of what the community would like to see.
The final issue discussed regarded the state of Maine’s request for local planning boards to update the shoreland ordinances and their maps. The current shoreland ordinance in Limestone is extremely similar to the update suggestions given by the state.
Currently, the code enforcement officer on the local level has to enforce the timber harvesting laws in shoreline zones, however, the planning board has the option to either keep the timber harvesting enforcement in the hands of the local code enforcement officer, or to turning enforcement of timber harvesting over to the state, which would save Limestone money. No decision made at the time.
The next planning board meeting is tentatively scheduled for the second half of January, 2009.
