Bailing out farmers again

To the editor:
If you watched WAGM News, you probably heard the story of Porters Seed Farm in Masardis. They are trying to figure out a way to get taxpayers’ money to stay in business. The Governor is going to cut the funds off so much a year. As bad a jobs as this Governor is doing, I have to applaud him for doing this. These farmers are after free taxpayers’ money!     I believe if a farmer cannot make it in their business they ought to shut their doors and find another business to be in.    Who came up with the idea that taxpayers have to bail out these farmers anyway – whether they make profit or not? Year after year, too!
When I was younger, for many years I worked for a manufacturing company. I saw many good farmers go out of business because they could not get any funding. I felt sorry for them! I asked one of the not-so-smart bosses what are these farmers going to do? He said to me “I don’t know! I don’t care! As long as we stand behind these Big Farmers.”
Now we’ve got the Big Farmers and still we (taxpayers) still have to bail them out.
We should have supported the little farmers instead of the big ones. We were not very smart!
Wise choice what we have done. We are going backwards instead of ahead.
I think people in Washington better get their head on straight. They better start caring about the poor people and the working class.
Don’t listen to the sad story of getting disease in the seed, we have other very good seed farmers here in Aroostook County! The Agriculture Office should get their story straight before they get on television.
